        The Sirindhorn Thai Language Institute (formerly The SIrindhorn Thai Language Center) at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand is organizing the international conference on “Language Proficiency Testing in the Less Commonly Taught Languages to commemorate the 84th Birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol  Adulyadej,  whose concern for the use of Thai language  with carefulness and competence  has  been widely known among Thai people. The main goal of the conference is to promote the understanding and the use of language proficiency testing among Thai language professionals and to provide a venue for conference participants to exchange knowledge and experience in language instruction and language proficiency testing. The conference also aims to bring together language teachers, educators, administrators and other stakeholders especially in the Less Commonly Taught Languages to discuss, share research, theory, and best practices on current language proficiency testing, language teaching of the LCTL, both for native and non-native speakers.

        For the purposes of this conference, a less commonly taught language is defined as any of the world’s languages except English, French, German and Spanish.

Presentation Details   

  • The presentation is expected to be in language testing of the less commonly taught languages for native and non-native speakers.
  • The language medium for all presentation at the conference is English


The presentations at the conference are accepted in these formats;

  • Oral Presentation: Participants will be allocated 20 minutes for presentation, plus 10 minutes for discussion.
  • Poster Presentations DATE: Friday 17, 2012. TIME: 4.30 PM – 5.30 PM Poster setting up time is from 12pm of August 17th, 2012
  • Design and layout specification

    1. The entire poster must be 120 cm wide and 80 cm high.
    2. A banner displaying poster title, name of the presenter, and affiliation should be positioned at the top-center of the board.      
    3. Please add the Conference title and date to the banner.

    Letterings

    1. Use a minimum font size of 18 points.
    2. Use all capital letters for the Title.

    You can print out some of your full texts (if any) in case people will be interested in reading it.
    ***Please indicate on the proposal of your preferred presentation format.

    Abstract
  • The abstract (in English only) of about 500 words (of “Time New Roman” in size 12 font) should include:

- Name/s and affiliation of the presenter/s.     

- Title of presentation.

- Purpose of the study.

- Methods of the study.

- Summary of findings.

- A brief list of references.

  • All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the academic committee. Notification about the final format of the presentation will be sent along with the notification of acceptance.

        *** Abstract file must be composed in either MS Word or RTF format by using Unicode Font (UTF8) or send the proposal in PDF format in addition. Paper size set to A4 and the file name started with the author last name following with under scroll symbol and the proposal title

Proceedings

        Accepted papers will be included in the Proceedings of the Conference to be available online and distributed on CD ROM. All registered attendants will receive a copy of the proceedings.
